Dadras attractor

The Dadras attractor is a chaotic system of overlapping scrolls whose look changes a great deal with the viewing angle.

Equations

dxdt=y − ax + byz
dydt=cy − xz + z
dzdt=dxy − ez

Three quadratic terms, yz, xz and xy, one in each equation. The divergence is −a + c − e = −10.3 everywhere.

History

Sara Dadras and Hamid Reza Momeni published the system in 2009. Depending on the parameters it produces two, three or four scrolls.

What to look for

Turn it slowly. From some angles it reads as two interlocking scrolls, from others as stacked sheets that seem to pass through each other.
